Brief Background about MT01 Colibri History
The Shieldon Colibri was first made available to the public in September of 2022, after a period of six months during which adjustments were made and discussions were held with the designer.
We are all aware that the designer Max Tkachuk who was located in Ukraine at the time was not in a pleasant condition at the time. As a result, we were communicating through a very challenging time.
Because of this, the whole production phase went so long.
Luckily, Shieldon’s expertise in production allowed for the completion of the model, and it has since gone on sale via official channels such as retail outlets and the Internet.
Best Selling Points of MT01 Colibri Knife by Shieldon and Max Tkachuk
Knife Colors
Cornflower blue and lemon G10 are used for the knife’s handle, the same as on the Ukrainian flag.
In a little way, we want to help the designer’s home country get through this difficult period by showing our respect for its people and culture.
Conflict is something no one wants, but none of us can prevent it. What regular people like us can do about the war is to pray for an early end to violence.
Customized Pivot Screw
The logo on the pivot screw was modified in March 2022. Shieldon joined the growing list of manufacturers with branding on the pivot or handle.
Designing and prototyping the pivot screw logo took a total of 2 months. The Shieldon crew clearly put up an honest effort in all of their endeavors. Plus, it looks great.
Profile Appearance
Max Tkachuk intended for this knife to be more of an everyday carry (EDC) option than a survival tool, so he made it small and compact.
Because of its small size, many individuals feel more comfortable using it on a regular basis. Compared to other EDC knives, MT01 Colibri Knife by Shieldon is extremely lightweight and can fit inside a pocket easily.
Length
Standing at just 3.82 inches or 97 millimeters when closed, this model is incredibly compact and may fit comfortably in the palm of one’s hand depending on their size.
Backspacer
G10 with a lemon-colored finish is used to make not just the handle scales but also the backspacer.
The whole appearance of the knife makes it seem more like a toy than a cutting instrument.
Shieldon believes that a knife is not a weapon if it is tiny enough to be used in a non-threatening manner.
Custom titanium pocket clip
On the other side, the same handle colors are included, along with a milled and customized titanium pocket clip.
An inexpensive EDC knife has the same scale on both sides. Additionally, symmetrical surfaces on knives are appealing to consumers. These features provide a more harmonious look.
When it comes to the clip, titanium had to be used as a stainless steel clip would not fit on the Shieldon Colibri due to its shape and space.
After consulting with the engineering manager at our workshop, we concluded that a custom-milled titanium clip was necessary for this project.
A custom-milled titanium clip is used for the MT01 Colibri Knife by Shieldon and is sure to last a lifetime.
Jimping on the blade
A nested liner lock design can be seen on the handle, and a beautiful jimping pattern can be seen on the back spine of the blade when viewed from above.
The jimping has two purposes: it prevents the front flipper from sliding around and it helps it open.
Jimping can also be used to give the MT01 Colibri Knife by Shieldon a more premium look and feel.
Nested liner lock
In recent years, a nested liner lock has become more common on everyday-carry (EDC) knives.
To begin, it reduces the thickness of the handle. In addition to this, it safeguards the liners that are contained within.
Centered blade
Blade centering is a key criterion for all knives, although it is difficult to center all blades during mass manufacture. The centering of the blade MT01 Colibri Knife by Shieldon is perfect.
You can see how difficult it is to maintain the blade centered throughout the assignment by watching our short films on Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, or YouTube.
It is possible to bend the blade with any force, so be careful while pounding, screwing, or testing.
Flipper frontal
Front flipper opening is one of the most complex knife opening methods.
People are used to collecting knives with flippers, thumb studs, or thumb-hole opening mechanisms.
As a result, more and more knife companies are beginning to make different play deployments on blades.
One of them is the front flipper. Shieldon also follows the trend of making knives with a front flipper. In addition, we will offer knives with thumb discs and Emersion openings.
Drop point Blade
It’s time to open the knife! Get ready for that delightful “Tssik” or “Ssoo-ik,” sound – we know you love it as much as we do. In fact, people who are passionate about knives have actually recorded these sounds and even used them as their ringtones and doorbells.
When you open the Shieldon Colibri, you’ll be captivated by its drop-point blade with 154CM steel.
This iconic blade shape is a favorite among hunting and EDC knives alike thanks to its versatility: it’s not too big or too small but just right for tackling any task!
Whether you’re meat processing, slicing food items, or opening boxes filled with your latest knife purchases – this strong tip and wide belly will make light work out of all these activities.
Water milling line
Moreover, the water milling line is clearly visible on the blade. Below it lies a flat grinding that follows modern knife-making techniques.
However, achieving exact symmetry between both sides can prove to be challenging and test one’s patience.
Stonewash finish
Don’t forget to admire the stonewash finish on the blade. Stonewash or satin finishes are popular in North America, whereas titanium coating finishes are popular in Europe.
While many may not perceive it, the swedge along the back of the blade offers an edge. Its tapered or beveled likeness (generally unsharpened) reduces thickness at its point to amplify piercing power.
Choil
Varied individuals have different preferences when it comes to the choil, thus it is difficult to reach a decision.
The choil (plural choils) is an unsharpened section of a knife blade near the handle, located at the base of the blade.
Some individuals like bigger sizes, while others prefer smaller sizes. In any case, it’s a rule that every knife has a choil in the blade.
Designer logo and knife name engravement
When you flip the blade around, you can see the designer logo and the engraved knife name.
Max Tkachuk designed the logo. He has multiple royalty designs with other knife manufacturers, including Shieldon. He uses the same designer logo on all of his knives.
Shieldon prefers to engrave all designer trademarks on the blade’s backside.
The renowned designer logo is not the only thing you’ll see on this Colibri knife; inscribed onto the blade close to its handle scale, it also features its knife name.
This design was brought about by Max Tkachuk’s epiphany one day as he admired his surroundings – from thereon, a sketch of what would become this iconic piece quickly came into being. After a few minor tweaks here and there, voila!
The “Colibri” knife was born.
Lock bar
The lock bar is set to around 40% of the stick, which meets most standards for knife quality.
It ensures that your knife stays secure when it’s open and won’t suddenly close while you’re using it, preventing any potential accidents or injuries.
Placement of liner lock
Our liner lock offers a superior feel when opened thanks to its carefully-crafted chamfered design.
As we strive for affordable luxury, even the subtlest touches are taken into consideration to ensure that knife users have peace of mind whenever they grip their blades shut.
Comfortable grip
Try holding the Colibri in the standard manner, and you will see that it is ergonomically designed to be handled quite pleasantly.
Coming back, the designer might acquire the concept from a bird or any other animal, but it should also draw the knife with good enough ergonomics for subsequent production. A regular person cannot draw a knife sketch randomly.
Try gripping the Colibri with your backhand to experience the comfortable ergonomics.
The benefit of backhand holding is its ability to disguise attacks and its increased lethality, although it has a shorter striking range.
People who like playing with folding knives are able to hold a knife in a variety of grips, including regular, backhand, and others.
Testing of knife
Are you captivated by the sound of slicing paper? It’s time to test the sharpness of Colibri and see why it has become a favorite among knife enthusiasts.
When using this tool, you’ll hear sounds such as “‘Slit!” or “Crrrr!” or “Tss!” (a literal translation).
The mesmerizing cutting sound will stay in your mind all night long! People who love knives can’t resist its incredibly satisfying sonic texture.
When viewing the video, you’ll notice that the knife blade pivots so smoothly it practically closes on its own. If a pocket knife can open swiftly and close effortlessly (we refer to this as “drop shut”), then it is certainly worthy of being called an everyday carry knife.
For many, the act of opening and closing a knife is not only therapeutic but also necessary for proper deployment tension.
This type of tension-release activity requires that the blade have a strong detent to remain in place.
